Seniors Project (Women Helping One Another)
Women Working Together to Improve Our Lives
______________________________________________________________________________________________________This
volunteer driven initiative seeks to increase senior women's
involvement and inclusion in our community, encourage senior women to
share their skills, experience and wisdom, and enhance cultural
understanding in our community. Through our volunteer program senior
women will act as mentors, trainers, and educators. This initiative
utilizes a peer support approach that is responsive to the diversity of
women's experience and will benefit women who are marginalized in our
community. Certain rights we
enjoy as women today were won for us by women of the past and we need
to remove the "generation gap" by providing opportunities for senior
women to speak about their experiences. We feel senior women have many skills and abilities to share with younger women.
We are also aware that many senior women particularly women most
marginalized in our community are often isolated and vulnerable to
abuse and exploitation. Objectives:
This project is
funded in part by Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program
